" Training Professionally for all our Lives "

LIFEGUARDS IRELAND are established to facilitate a full range of beach, pool qualifications  aimed at the Leisure Industry, Local Authorities and Co. Councils, Colleges, Surf Clubs and Outdoor Activity Centres.

We act as a facilitator to those wishing to register as training units for  Beach Lifeguards.

LIFEGUARDS IRELAND work in close cooperation with the National Lifeguard Training Programme (NLTP)  who act to promote the development of  RLSS National Lifeguard Qualifications,  and to encourage the widespread adoption of water safety education, resuscitation skills and out-of-hospital defibrillation. Visit the  NTLP page.

We also offer a range of First Aid courses and defibrillator training courses. Please view our  FIRST AID page.

National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) has developed  with Surf Life Saving (SLSA) Wales and Surf Life Saving (SLS) GB  a new national standard for beach lifeguarding - the National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ)

The NVBLQ complies with the International Life Saving Federation beach competency framework. It will be offered by all three organisations and is endorsed by the National Water Safety Forum and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).

The NVBLQ will be recognised and promoted by RLSS UK, SLS GB, SLSA Wales as the national standard for vocational beach lifeguarding.

The NVBLQ course is a minimum of 40 hours long followed by a practical assessment on beach theory, life support, first aid, swimming pool practical and open water practical.

Upon qualifying with the NVBLQ, the certificate is valid for two years from the date of successful completion.

This new VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION for Beach Lifeguarding offers the highest standards in the industry and afford candidates the knowledge and security of a vocational qualification which will have worldwide recognition.

LIFEGUARDS IRELAND is  registered with the world's leading lifesaving/lifeguard charitable organisation lifesavers (RLSS) and forms part of the world wide family of RLSS.   We adhere to the Syllabi, Policy Statements and Codes of Practice set out by lifesavers (RLSS).

Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005

The effect of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (Dail Eireann) is to require a beach or a pool operator (manager, owner/s, directors) to ensure that lifeguards are sufficient in number, adequately trained, and effectively organised on the beaches and in the pools under their control and for which they are responsible.

National Lifeguard Training Programme

The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification and the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification are awarded by the Institute of Qualified Lifeguards (IQL), and are nationally and internationally recognised as the essential standards of competence. Each acts as a passport to employment with swimming pool managers, local authorities, outdoor centres and holiday companies both here in Ireland and throughout the world.

For further information you may email the National Lifeguard Training Programme < nltp@eircom.net  >

The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification is one of the recommended safety qualifications used by many water sports organisations throughout the world. In addition, we provide the Emergency Response Award for Outdoor Supervisors for those responsible and in supervision of others involved in water based sports activities. In Ireland  the Irish Surfing Association accepts the NBLQ as a safety qualification for a Surf Instructor/Coach.

We provide other services  including pool and beach risk assessments and safety management strategies, advice and recommendations  in the development of a Normal Operating Plan (NOP) and a Emergency Action Plan (EAP).  Inspection of Beach Lifeguard Stations with results, reports and recommendations.
